How to Install Grav

Learn how easy it is to install this static CMS.

I wanted to create a simple website, but without any of the complications of using some CMS like Drupal. I needed something simple, easy to maintain and fast. After some research, I ended up using Grav.

Grav is a modern open source flat-file CMS that doesn’t require database connection and it’s really easy to install and use. Also, its performance is great.

This is how easy it is to install it:

  • Go to https://getgrav.org/downloads
  • You have two ways of installing Grav:
    1) Download the core, plugins, theme.
    2) Use a skeleton. A skeleton is an all-in-one package containing the core, sample pages, plugins and configuration. This is the way I’ve chosen as it’s the quickest one. I’ve chosen the “Pinpress Site” skeleton.
  • Uncompress the skeleton zip file to your sites location. In my case, as I’m using a virtual machine, it’s /var/www/public.
  • Now let’s install some must-have plugins like Admin Panel or Google Analytics. There are three ways to install them:
    1) Downloading them manually and adding the folder in your_site_path/user/plugins.
    2) Using gpm (recommended). If you are using a virtual machine, do vagrant ssh, go to your site folder and run one on these commands (one or the…
