10 Stoic Principles for a Better Life
Follow the steps of Zeno of Citium
Stoicism is a Hellenistic philosophy founded in Athens in the 3rd century BC by Zeno of Citium, a Hellenistic philosopher from Citium, Cyprus.
Stoicism emphasises goodness and peace of mind by living in accordance with nature. It teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a way to overcome destructive emotions and actions. The resilience proclaimed by stoicism comes from the belief that a wise person is immune to misfortune and that virtue is sufficient to achieve happiness.
These are some of the principles of stoicism:
Live in accordance with nature
Try to live your life in accordance with the natural order of things, knowing that everything happens for a reason and living in harmony with it, whatever the outcome is.
Focus only on what you can control
In life, there are things you can control and others you can’t. Focus only on the things you have control over, like your thoughts actions and reactions. Let go of the concerns you may have over things you can’t change or influence.
